Switch to slf4j as logging framework

    Description

      We currently use apache commons logging, which haven't had a release (1.1.1) since November 2007.

      We should consider swiching to the current de-facto standard loggin aggregator framework slf4j, which might be able to solve some of our problems with configuring custom loggers.
