Reorganize existing files into separate maven projects keeping git history

We would like to reorganize the current single root source tree into individual maven projects while keeping the history of the files.

This can be done with git filter-branch with the --index-filter option (http://git-scm.com/docs/git-filter-branch - search for "To move the whole tree into a subdirectory, or remove it from there:") and adding the appropriate pom.xml files.
