A instance defines a closed context in a BitRepository system for maintaining one or more collection of files.

The configuration for a Bit repository instance is defined in a RepositorySettings file.

One, Two or more collections?

When chosing when to have one or more instances, the following concerns might lead you to distribute the data across more than one collection.


Repository settings should only be shared between the participants for a concrete collection.

No parts of the repository settings are currrently private, eg. the full set of repository settings may be shared.
